Veteran Service

"Lest We Forget"
The Royal Canadian Legion is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to help all veterans and their families. Aid is provided through our veterans and seniors officer who can be contacted at the branch.

We use funds collected through our annual poppy campaign to aid veterans and to provide bursaries to students.

We foster Remembrance through our parade and cenotaph celebrations during the Remembrance period in November. We also hold a Candlelight Tribute every May.

Our local schools participate in our Literary and Poster contests and our colour parties attend services at our schools. We often take veterans to speak to the children.

We are also community minded. Every fall in conjunction with the Acton Rotary Club, we provide a turkey dinner to the seniors in town with the proceeds going to Salvation Army and St. Vincent Charities to aid in the distribution of Christmas Hampers to the needy. We also provide a community breakfast for the Acton Fall Fair. Many community groups use our facilities free of charge to hold meetings.

We have hosted the Unity Service, a non-denominational service for over twenty years with no charge to the churches involved.  We donate to local groups such as CASSH, The Georgetown Hospital, the Acton Firefighter Association, girl guides, scouts, minor hockey, soccer and the local school breakfast programs and various fundraisers for those who are ill.

We also donate to the Children's Wish Foundation to support their fundraising program for children. Every second month the Red Cross holds a blood donor clinic at our branch with no charge for the hall.
